A Hamden firefighter, who doubles as the head brewer for BAR in New Haven, created a beer in honor of a Massachusetts firefighter who died in the line of duty.

Worcester, Mass., firefighter Christopher Roy died fighting a five-alarm fire on Sunday, Dec. 9, according to a statement from the Worcester Fire Department.

In Roy’s honor, Hamden Fire Lt. Dave Wood created Last Alarm IPA, a beer that has been on top at BAR for about a week as of Saturday. The beer has notes of pine and heavy doses of hops.

A dollar from each Last Alarm IPA sold will go toward the Ava Roy Fund, a benefit that was established for Roy’s 9-year-old daughter following his death.

Donations to that fund can be made online at www.iaff1009.org/ or by mailing checks to WFDCU, 34 Glennie St. in Worcester, Mass., 01605.
