The Knights of Columbus, St. Rita Council #14664, has earned the distinction of "Star Council" for the fraternal year 2016-2017. This is the ninth consecutive award presented to the council; one for each year of the council's existence. The award recognizes overall excellence in the areas of membership, insurance, and service-oriented activities in the Divine Mercy Parish and the community. The Star Award was presented to Council Deputy Grand Knight Tim Freer during a ceremony at the Knights of Columbus Museum in New Haven. Thank you to all the Knights who worked so hard to achieve this award.
Community activities included a Columbus House cookout for the homeless, planning and cooking for the parish picnic, a$703.00 donation to a refugee family, providing volunteers for the Habitat for Humanity, and the Coats for Kids program. Among the many activities for the Divine Mercy Parish, the St. Rita Knights donated $1000 to the St. Rita School scholarship fund, cooked for the annual school walkathon, and provided a fish fry during lent.
